Morton Miller Obituary

Morton J. Miller, 98, of Allentown, passed away peacefully at home in the company of his wife Judith Miller. Mort was born in Borough Park, Brooklyn, where he attended the Hebrew Institute of Borough Park until age 14, when he moved with his family to Allentown. Mort graduated from Allentown High School in 1941 and began college at the University of Pennsylvania before being drafted during World War II. He was stationed in England as a member of the Eighth Army Air Corps. After the war Mort went back to Penn and graduated in 1947 from the Wharton School. He was the co-founder and co-owner of Millcrest Manufacturing Company in Fountain Hill from 1947-1990. He served as a board member of the Jewish Federation of the Lehigh Valley, then as a founding board member of Jewish Family Services of the Lehigh Valley, including a term as President. He was a long-time member of Temple Beth El, the Allentown JCC, and Oakmont Tennis Club. Mort was an avid crossword puzzle and cryptogram solver. He appreciated classical music and jazz, enjoyed reading, and was a contributor to the essay collection Songs of Ourselves.

Mort and Judy wintered 28 years in Delray Beach, FL after his retirement.

Mort met his wife Judy (nee Farmer) on a double date, and they married in 1952. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in December. He was the eldest child of Harry and Ethel (Sackin) Miller, and pre-deceased by his sister Shirley (Dweck) and his brother Chester. He is survived by Judy, his son Dr. Andrew Miller (Lynne Ruff) of Princeton Junction, NJ, his daughter Nancy Miller, RN (Kaj Schueler) of Stockholm, Sweden, his sister-in-law Edith Miller (widow of Chester), grandchildren Becky McAuley (Mike), Lisa Steers (Brian), and Max Schueler, nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews, and friends, who remember Mort fondly.

The Miller family extends special thanks to Chenique Roman, China Settles, Alissa Gavin and all of the caregivers who made Mort's last months comfortable, and to Dr. Paul Gulotta and his staff.

Service: Private (at Mort's request). Arrangements by Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations in Mort's memory can be made to Jewish Family Services of the Lehigh Valley at 2004 W. Allen St., Allentown, PA 18104.
