Samuel Baker Obituary

Samuel Luther "Luke" Baker was ushered into heaven on April 16, after a courageous two-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Sunbury, grew up in Northumberland, and served his beloved country for four years in the United States Air Force. Luke was the oldest son of the late John and Helen Baker. His professional life was spent predominantly at Mack Trucks, where he retired in 2009. His journey on this earth concluded exactly one month short of his 80th birthday.

Luke is survived by his brother, John Baker (Sue) and sister, Joan Gillette. In addition to his siblings, he had four children, Emily Blanton, Eric Baker (Kelly), Kristina Beers (Pete), and Laura Dimauro (Sheamus). Luke also had 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Luke was known for his friendliness and warm smile. He loved people and was willing to help whenever and wherever needed. Luke was a passionate weightlifter, loved trips to Disney, cruise nights, car shows, and was an ardent collector of classic hot rods. He is remembered fondly for faithfully serving many years as a head usher at Bethel Baptist Church in Sellersville.

The family takes great comfort in knowing that Luke has joined friends and family members that have preceded him to heaven because of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Two years and it still hurts my heart to look at that smiling face. His legend and legacy definitely lives on in every person that he interacted with; he's put a lot of good in a lot of people to carry out into the world! Helps that one day we will all have a big Mack reunion in the sky, but still sad that some of us had a head start... Thinking of Luke's family and wishing them comforting memories to soften the loss.

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I heard of Luke's passing. I will always look fondly on our friendship, and your leadership skills sir. You represented Mack with utmost professionalism, and you represented with the utmost dignity what it meant to be called a "good man". I salute you sir and look forward to our meeting again. We lost a great man, but heaven called home a great man. God bless you and your family.

I was really saddened to hear of this news. Luke was not just a coworker at Mack. He was a mentor and friend. A kind soul to all. Always kept his head and was cool in a tense situation. I will miss my conversations with him about life, country, cars and our beloved Mack trucks. I am so lucky that he considered me a friend. Rest in Peace my friend and may your days be filled with cruising in your favorite car. Till we meet again

What a blow to mankind everywhere. Luke embodied a person with a kind soul. He was a phenomenal leader and mentor. I will miss him very much, but I know we will meet again. In the meantime, he has joined the Mack Heaven crowd and we have everything he taught us and all the memories we've shared. I'm so thankful to have known him! I hope the family finds comfort in the many great memories I'm sure THEY have.

To my friend and Mack family member Luke Baker.
Thank you for the opportunity to work at Mack Trucks. Thank you for being the great leader and mentor that you were. Thank you for the privilege of being able to call you my friend. I often refer to you when I need an example of what a true leader was, and will forever miss coming to work at Mack WHQ getting things done, keeping our customers happy, and being loyal to that beloved Bulldog. God bless you Luke. I have so many great memories of the time we all spent together.
Until we meet again.
Your friend forever.
