I am so very sorry (and shocked) to come across this. I loved Mr. & Mrs. Werley when I was at Nitschmann. My deepest condolences to the entire family. Some of the best memories I have were trying to understand the French language, Band Trips, and Home Economics! I still have my shorts, pillow, and bag that I sewed - Mrs. Werley, I haven't touched a sewing machine since. I was always so excited when Steven and Danielle were at school (especially when Steven was a baby). Thinking of you all.

On this anniversary of your untimely passing I have these thoughts. I shared many travel experiences with Steve especially on the Viking river long boats. Also know that several trips were reserved for this current year. Reminds me
that we should live our lives to the the fullest while we can.
Best to the family.

Mr. Werley was my French teacher at Nitschmann. But I think his biggest impact came as he constantly encouraged me when I became an educator myself. He was a great man, a fine teacher and a tougher coach than many might remember. I remember a summer basketball program he ran when I was in seventh grade. I broke a finger one day and refused to tell him because I feared it meant he would cut me in the fall. Forget the fact that I was a bad basketball player. He always remembered that about me. His smile was/is unforgettable. I'm so, so sorry.

So sorry I cannot attend Steve´s funeral. My thoughts are with the family. Neglected to mention previously how Steve enjoyed the Legal Sea Food restaurants that we went to claiming there were none in the Allentown area. He loved seafood. There were so many other memories that are too numerous to mention.

Dear Annmarie, no words can adequately express how deeply sorry we are for the loss that you, your children, and the entire family are experiencing with the untimely passing of Steve. He truly was an exceptional, good man who left his mark on so many of the people he encountered both professionally and personally. His genuine, caring smile seemed to deliver the message that "life is good" and "everything will be all right." There is no doubt that the gates of heaven opened wide to welcome him home! Please know that we are here for you for whatever and whenever.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, I went to Emmaus with Steve, and he taught French to both of my kids at Nitschmann Middle School. A great guy, he'll be missed.

Mr. Werley was a caring teacher to my sons, Kevin and Andy, and prepped them for the annual French contest (Kevin more successfully than his brother) and took them to Canada. He was Andy´s first country coach; I remember how he double knotted Andy´s shoe laces before the big middle school meet. We often crossed paths at cross country and track meets as we had Rohmann cousins who ran for Parkland. I appreciate all that he did for the boys. So sorry for your loss.

In the past 2 days Mr. Werley hasn't left my mind. I am so thankful to have been able to see him one last time during the photoshoot and thank him for always including me as a part of the family, letting me know I was always welcome. He was an amazing person, and I will miss him dearly.

Annmarie, We will fondly remember that random weeknight we saw both of you at Willow Street. Laughs and recalling good times on the outside patio. We don´t know what to say at this difficult time. Just know we are thinking of you and sending hugs.

I am hoping I can pay my respects, but may not be able to do that in person unfortunately, so I would like to say, Steve was one of the most amicable people I knew and it was a real pleasure getting the chance to reconnect with him the last couple of years to reminisce. What I get out of a tragedy such as this, is life can be short and living your life as Steve did relating to others with such kindness and respect gives credit to his fine character. God bless you Steve and your family

You were a good friend. We had a lot of laughs when we saw each other at the sports memorabilia shows. I will miss our long conversations about your recreational travel on Viking with Annmarie & comparing notes. Also, good memories when we did the Baseball All Star Collectors Showcase, & was privilege to have met you son Steve, & daughter Danielle. RIP my friend, you are royalty in heaven.
