Thomas F. Goldsmith, 80, of Palmer Twp., PA, died Jan. 11, 2020 at his home. Born Aug. 28, 1939 in Easton he was a son of the late Mary Louise (Miles) and John F. Goldsmith. His wife, JoAnn (Doria) Goldsmith died in 2017. He graduated from Blair Academy in 1957 and Lafayette College in 1963 and served in the NJ National Guard. Tom was the Mayor of the City of Easton for 3 terms from 1992 to 2003. He then served on the PA Liquor Control Board from 2003 to 2011. Prior to that he was a banker in the Trust Dept. of First Valley Bank and a stockbroker for W.E. Hutton. The Mayor also served as a Consultant for the Easton Area Sewer Authority and for local municipalities. He served on Easton City Council from 1968 to 1988 and was a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Pomfret Club, the Northampton Country Club and the Young Republican Club of Easton. Tom enjoyed golfing, watching the Philadelphia Eagles and college basketball.

He is survived by his son: James T. Goldsmith (wife Heidi) of Collegeville, PA; a brother: Timothy S. Goldsmith of Palmer Twp., PA; and 3 grandchildren: Anthony, Steven and Timothy. A sister Constance Addington predeceased him.

Services are 10:30 AM Friday in College Hill Presbyterian Church, 501 Brodhead St., Easton with visitation 5 to 7:30 PM Thursday in the Ashton Funeral Home, 1337 Northampton St., Easton.

My condolences to the family. Mayor Tom was always an enjoyable conversationalist: dry humor, wit and intelligence. Our collaboration in 1999 to secure funding for the soon-to-be Weller Center (modern day Easton Market) demonstrated his pragmatism and resolve. His insight decades ago that a city's core must be thriving for a city to be well is confirmed over and over again. Surely, he is the original architect of Easton's recent rise. While we can longer see each other downtown to discuss public policy, maybe someday...rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Tom's son Jim and brother Tim.
I had the privilege to know Tom Goldsmith in a very public way as both a friend and a foe. In both aspects, he always had a sense of dignity and decorum, not to mention a wry sense of humor. I found him, as a friend, to be an exceptionally caring person, who was often reluctant to show that side publicly. I remember one Christmas Eve when he called about some issue, he got on the telephone with my then young sons to assure them that Police Chief Palmer was tracking Santa and he was on the way.
Tom had a sense of vision which transcended partisan politics, most notably in his support of Democrat Ed Rendell. He was the original architect of the rebirth of Easton.
While somewhat complex as a person, Tom's sense of the importance of public service both in the public and private sectors was paramount. I am grateful that I and my family had the opportunity to call him friend. May he rest in peace.

Tom was a long time friend and confidant. Together we enjoyed many rousing conversations, plus some fine wines. He was a fighter for what he believed in. A true man of integrity, honor, and service.

He was a good and loyal friend of our Easton Lebanese Community his entire life. Last I saw him was two years ago at our Lebanese Heritage Days Festival. His caregiver said he insisted on coming. When mom's nephew, the late District Judge Mike Koury died in 1997, he was Mayor, saw how distraught our family was, pulled me aside and said if he or the City can do anything for our family, I should let him know. Big heart, great man. Rest in Peace, Tommy, and May Perpetual Light Shine Upon You, my dear and loyal friend.
