Wilbur R. Weaver, 89, of Allentown, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008. He was the husband of Evelyn S. (Schwenk) Weaver to whom he was married 62 years. Born November 23, 1918 in Cetronia, he was the son of the late Peter and Annora (Schmeltzle) Weaver. Wilbur worked for PPL for 46 years and retired as a procurement specialist in 1984. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, with the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific. As a Marine sergeant responsible for communications, he fought in the battles of the Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima. He received the Navy Commendation for his service in the battles of Saipan, Tinian and the Marinas Islands. He was proud of his honorable service for his country. He was a graduate of South Whitehall High School, where he played varsity basketball and baseball. In retirement, he was an avid golfer. He was a member of Zions Reformed United Church of Christ Church, Allentown. Survivors: Wife, Evelyn; daughters, Susan Steiner, wife of Glenn Steiner and Patricia Demko, both of Allentown, Anne Weaver of Whitehall; two grandchildren, four great-granddaughters.
