ALICE BURGA Obituary

ALICE BURGA Alice Mae (Christman) Burga, 87, of Salesville passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Altercare in Cambridge. She was born in a farmhouse in Monroe County on January 5, 1938, daughter of the late Thurman and Wilma (Geldmacher) Christman. Alice graduated from Beallsville High School, class of 1955. After school, she worked as a secretary for the FFA in Columbus and for East End Garage in Barnesville. Alice retired from Leatherwood Valley Egg Farm. Alice was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Christ in Woodsfield and attended Salesville Methodist Church. Alice married her classmate, Gene Edward Burga on June 3, 1956. They had 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised seven children and a farm raising cattle. They loved playing cards with family and friends. In raising seven children, she kept them busy delivering newspapers, taking them to mow yards, and arranging for them to help in the hay fields for the neighbors. She attended all sports activities, involved her kids in 4-H and became an advisor for the neighbor kids. She was a devoted grandma and great grandma, loved by them all. In addition to his parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene E. Burga, who died December 7, 2021, two brothers, Willis Christman and Dwight Christman, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Brady A. Burga and Ida (Bunfill) Burga, son-in-law, Dannie B. Black, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Junior and Molly (Davis) Burga and a great-grandson, Chase Alan Burga. She is survived by her loving children; six sons, Ronald (Jackie) Burga of Lore City, Scott (Donna) Burga of Salesville, Daniel Burga of Salesville, Timothy (Pam) Burga of Salesville, Thomas (Diane) Burga of Barnesville, and Russell (Molly) Burga of Quaker City; a daughter, Crystal Black of Salesville; 18 grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) Wellman, A.J. (Jessy) Burga, Chad (Kim) Burga, Eric Burga, Julie (Wes) Feldner, Katelyn (Brent) Dougan, Aaron (Annika) Burga, Casey Burga, Cassie (Fred) Butcher, Cortney (Evan) Hastings, Alison (Brennan) King, Jarrett (Michele) Burga, Marrissa (Kody) Crooks, Lacy (Brandon) Lowry, Dusty Black, Jed (Kelsey) Burga, Jennifer Burga, and Joanna Burga; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Connie (Guy) Johns of Barnesville and Jan Christman of Delaware; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend who was like a son, Rick Hillyer. Calling hours were held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Quaker City with funeral services the following day, Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Quaker City with Carol Touvell and Devanie Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Salesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be sent to The Gene and Alice Burga Scholarship Fund, c/o Citizens National Bank, PO Box 187, Quaker City OH 43773.
