THOMAS N. CARGILL
Thomas N. Cargill, of New Meadows, Idaho, passed away surrounded by love at St Luke's Medical Center in Boise on 10/24/25. A man of courage, strength, and integrity, Tom will be remembered for his easy-going smile, big hugs, generosity, athleticism, and his ever-present desire to make others laugh.
Tom is survived by three children from his first wife, Sylvia oldest daughter Marcia Cargill and grand-daughter Olivia, second daughter Amy J. (AJ) Cargill, and son Michael Cargill and grandchildren Raymond and Brendan Cargill, and their mother Lisa Cargill and her husband Tim Wieber. Also, Tom's very special friend and caretaker, Rosanna Zavala, and her family.
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tom was a standout athlete at Ottawa High School, where he excelled in football and track and field. He attended Grand Rapids Junior College and Northwestern University, continuing an athletic path with a highlight of his life playing football at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California.
His competitive spirit and natural leadership carried into his professional life, where he began his career in management at General Motors. He followed this with many successful years at Black & Decker, Ingersoll Rand, and Hughes Aircraft. Tom built his own business, Sun Valley Shutters & Shades, in 1982 in Sun Valley, Idaho, thriving in his business and community until retirement.
Tom married the love of his life, Beverley, in 1993, and together they shared 26 wonderful years. They made their homes in Sun Valley, Idaho, Borrego Springs, California, and finally in New Meadows, Idaho playing golf, making new friends, attending and volunteering with church, and building a bond that only grew stronger as Beverley courageously faced her battle with MS until her passing in 2019.
Tom felt most at home in New Meadows. The close-knit town embraced him as one of their own, and he found great joy in his many friends and fellowship at the New Meadows Methodist Churchfaithfully attending and helping out whenever called upon.
Tom lived a life defined by warmth, humor, and kindness with many friends in many places. His presence brought light and steadiness to those around him, and his legacy of love will endure in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered always.
The family plans to have a private celebration of life at a later date.
