Alvis Hendren Obituary
April 13, 1945 - February 9, 2023
Mr. Alvis "Gene" Hendren, age 77, of Old Fort, NC, transitioned to his heavenly home peacefully while surrounded by his loving wife and friends, following a brief illness. He fought hard to remain here with those he loved but on Thursday, February 9, 2023, the good Lord took him home.
Gene was born in Knoxville, TN, on April 13, 1945, to the late Alvis Bruce Hendren and Florence Anna Woodson Hendren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Lineberry; and a brother-in-law, James Michael Pittman.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Penny Hendren; his cherished son, Stephen; 2 amazing grandsons, Matthew and Joshua; and his wonderful sister, Dottie Pittman. He was also blessed to have several nieces and nephews who gave him much joy and he had many cousins that he loved.
After graduating from High School in Bristol, TN, he attended East Tennessee State University. During his life he worked hard and he retired from Galey & Lord with thirty four years of loyal service.
Gene was a man of impeccable character in his work and home life. He was ALWAYS there to help others when they needed him without asking for anything in return. His saying was "We were put on this earth to help each other and you should do for others as they would do for you." He had many wonderful friends and was loved and appreciated by all. OH, WHAT A PERFECTIONIST HE WAS!

Gene was my supervisor at Galey & Lord. We had our differences over the years (mainly because I was young and hard headed) But I really liked Gene and we became friends through the years, always picking on each other when we ran into one another. I will miss getting to pick on him and the joking, He will be missed.
