Hattie Greene Obituary

Marion-Hattie H. Stone Greene, age 90, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Autumn Care of Marion. She was born in Yancey County on July 17, 1919. She was faithful to the First Freewill Baptist Church where she was an active member assisting anywhere she was needed. She retired from Burlington Industries. Her family will remember her as a loving mother and grandmother. Preceding Mrs. Greene in death was her first husband, Estal T. Stone; and second husband, Robert Greene; sons, Robert and Glenn Stone. Surviving Mrs. Greene are one son, Dan Stone and wife, Cynthia, of Fairfax Station, Va.; two sisters, Estella H. Pierce of Florida and Christine M. Presnell of Marion; four grandchildren, Krista, Laura, Rex and Luke. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Bird, Rev. Justin Deaton and Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. I was a neighbor of Hattie Stone Green for many years. My family valued her friendship. She was a considerate and caring woman.When in Marion I drive down Hill Street and look at her house, good memories fill my head. My sympathy to all her family members,especially Danny.
