Jamie B. Green

August 30, 1933 - October 13, 2021

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, Jamie B. Green, 88, of Marion, passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital McDowell.

Mrs. Green was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Surry County, to the late Otis Winfield Bowman and Ola Mae Hardy Bowman.

She worked for Bank of America for many years. She then changed careers and went to work for Joanne Howle Realty where she worked until retirement. Mrs. Green was a faithful and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Marion, where she served in various capacities over the years. She was especially active with the United Methodist Women group. Mrs. Green was also the first secretary of the McDowell County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Women's Golf Association at the Marion Lake Club. She had a love of golfing, hiking, and playing cards, especially a good game of bridge. She was a social butterfly and was very outgoing. People loved her, and she loved them back immensely. Having been very involved with the community over the years, she still spent much of her time in devotion to her family, especially to her five grandsons, whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Green made many close friends and touched the hearts of many. She will be missed dearly by all who had the chance to know her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Groce.

Those left behind to cherish Mrs. Green's memory are her beloved husband, Lamar Green; two children, Lynda Whitley of Marion, and Tony Groce and wife, Janne, of Raleigh; two stepdaughters, Tina Calder and husband, Michael, of Gainsville, Fla., and Mary Hardee of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five precious grandsons, Tucker Ray Whitley, Jacob Lee Whitley, Nicklaus James Whitley, Sam Groce and Will Groce; and two brothers, Bobby M. Bowman of Swansboro and Dr. Gray Bowman and his wife, Dr. Anita, of Thomasville; as well as, many extended family members and beloved friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Green's life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17, at First United Methodist Church of Marion. Interment will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Mrs. Green's memory are asked to consider First United Methodist Women, 176 Robert St., Marion, NC 28752.
