Richard Daniel Shuford

Richard Daniel Shuford, 75, of Carters Ridge Rd., in Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Zora Lane Shuford and husband of the late Sandra Kay Shuford, who passed away in 2013. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother; brother, Wilford Lee Shuford; and two sisters-in-law, Irene and Kathleen Shuford.

Richard was co-owner of Shuford Lumber Company in Marion. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughter, Cassandra Horton and husband, Randy, of Spruce Pine; son, Daniel Shuford of Spruce Pine; grandsons, Landran Guinn and Maverick Ray Horton; granddaughter, Mia Kay Horton; sisters, Lillian Huskins of South Toe and Linda Hendricks and husband, John, of Spruce Pine; brothers, Jim Shuford and wife, Leta, of South Toe, Martin Shuford of Micaville, Troy Shuford and wife, Fran, of Marion, and Junior Shuford and wife, Viola, of South Toe; brothers-in-law, Jack Jarvis and wife, Martie, and Bill Jarvis and wife, Susan, all of Cowen, W.Va.; and a special sister-in-law, Sonja Randolph, that was especially kind to take care of him in his last years after his wife Sandra passed away; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Bruce Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Autrey Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the services.
