Richard Lewis Ward

March 29, 1936 - September 1, 2025

Richard Lewis Ward, age 89, of Rutherfordton, N.C., went home to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center.

A native of Rutherford County, Lewis was the son of the late Richard Ward and Essie Walker Ward. He was a member at Oak Springs Baptist Church, and co-owner A&W Sandblasting. Lewis was an avid race fan, deer hunter, and fisherman. He loved banjo and bluegrass music, and the Lord. In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his three sisters, Marjorie White, Lillian Gibson, Louise Haulk.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Conner Ward; brother-in-law, George Conner; two sisters-in-law, Linda Conner Waters, and Kathy Ware Conner; numerous nieces, nephews, and many many dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2025, at McMahan's Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, Reverend Don Hollifield and Reverend Todd Westfall. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
