Ruby Eloise Duncan Oliver

Ruby Eloise Duncan Oliver, 93, of Morganton, N.C. and formerly of Marion, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023.

She was born in Marion on May 13, 1929 to the late Charles Everette Duncan and Mae Willie Wilson Duncan.

Ruby was employed at Cross Cotton Mill and worked in textiles for many years before becoming a Supervisor at Baxter Healthcare where she retired. She later enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending winters in Florida. When there, she loved fishing and making lifelong friends. She was an excellent cook and received joy by feeding and taking care of others. Ruby had a sweet tooth and especially loved milkshakes. She enjoyed watching birds and collecting shells.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Albert Parker; second husband, Fred Oliver; sons, Charles Parker and Albert Parker, Jr.; and siblings, Bill Duncan, Betty Walker, Leonard Wilson, and Florence Hensley.

She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Draughon (David); four grandchildren, Albert "Robbie" Parker, III (Angela), Amanda Conley, Chris Draughon (Lori), and Heather Atkins (Shane); four great grandchildren, Andrew Parker, Kellen Conley, Piper Atkins, and Griffin Draughon; nephew, Dr. Tom Walker; nieces, Rhonda, Kim, and Renoo; three step children, Rebecca Martin (Danny), Rosemary Oliver, and Randy Oliver (Jill); four step grandchildren, Angie, Chris, Taylor, and Kristen; and five step great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Dr. Tom Walker and Mr. Paul Baker officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.
