Russell Hollifield Obituary

Russell G. Hollifield MARION Russell G. Hollifield, of McDowell County, died at the age of 90, Monday, April 2, 2012 at Grace Hospital in Morganton. He was a lifelong resident of McDowell County, and was preceded in death by his parents. Marion Dee Hollifield and Mary Morgan Hollifield. His wife, Jamie McCall Hollifield also preceded him in death. He was instrumental in the construction of Turkey Cove Baptist Church and was one of its oldest members. He loved his church and had a strong belief. During his life, he was a dairyman for many years, selling milk to his many friends. Later, he started and operated a TV repair business for many years. He is survived by three children, Alexander (Buddy) Hollifield and his wife, Cathy, Virginia Siler and her husband Charles (Chuck) and Janice Shuford and her husband Mickey. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him. He had many friends in the North Cove area, and two special friends, Ersel Hollifield and Perry Spencer. A Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with the Rev. Charles Hollifield officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 5, in the afternoon and evening at the family home. Burial will be in the Turkey Cove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation at 4819 Park Rd., Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209-3842, or to the Baptist Children's Home at P.O.
