Doris Ruth Rogers Evans, 93, passed away peacefully into eternal life at home on July 8, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born September 27, 1931, in Independence, Mo, Doris was the only child of William and Esthel Rogers. She grew up during the Depression, developing resilience and a lifelong appreciation for family, faith, and hard work. Learning to drive a Mobil Gas truck at the age of 14 alongside her father, she gained skills and strength that served her well the rest of her life. She also spent the summers of her formative years on the Seaton Farm (maternal grandparents) in Nevada, Missouri, which fostered her love for being a country girl. She graduated from Canton High School in 1949
She married the love of her life, George Evans, in 1949, and together they shared 59 years of marriage until his passing in 2008. George and Doris lived their life and raised their daughters in the oilfields of McPherson County. Doris was a devoted wife and mother of four daughters, balancing work as a bookkeeper, photographer, and later as an Activities Director and Social Services Liaison at Shiloh Manor in Canton where she found great purpose serving others in her later years. McPherson County was home for much of her life where she developed lasting relationships and enjoyed abundant adventures.
In 2014 she was ready for a life change, moving her to the "family compound" east of Emporia to spend her remaining years surrounded daily by family. Doris enjoyed frequent visits from her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids; having picnics in her yard and returning to the country life that she so much enjoyed in her younger years. Doris was known by close friends and family as Mema, and she often referred to the life in the compound, getting to enjoy watching her great grandchildren grow up, as her "greatest joy."
Doris remained active and developed strong relationships in church and community life throughout her years in Canton and Lebo, Ks. Doris will be remembered by all who knew her for her strength, kindness, positive attitude, and steady presence in the lives of her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters Kathleen (Jim) Fischer, Paula (Jack) Taylor, Julie (Vince) Jantz, and Sharon (Gary) Starcher; grandchildren Evan Wilson (Catie Schneider), Abby Jantz, and Kelsey (Clint) Meyer; and great grandchildren Adley Meyer, Rilynn Myer, and Charley Wilson. Step family; Zach (Sara, Bradley, and Kynsley) Taylor, and Katie (Kaylan, Braydon, and Miles) Benton. Bonus family Dorothy Ratzlaff, Bob (Kim) Ratzlaff, David Sebring, and Juanita Boesker.
