1931 - 2024

HOWARD HASSMAN  On Wednesday, September 4, 2024 Howard Hassman went to be with his Lord and Savior. Howard was born on November 10, 1931 to Henry and Mabel Hassman in McPherson County, KS. He lived a long and full life on this earth but there is a time when the Lord calls us home and with Howard's faith, he was ready.  Howard was raised on his family farm and developed a love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and took many trips to southern Texas and New Mexico to hunt bobcats. In Kansas, he enjoyed fishing and hunting coyotes. He taught his sons to hunt and fish and passed along his appreciation for the beautiful nature that God created.  In 1951 he joined the United States Marine Corps and honorably served his country in the Korean War. During his time in the military he earned multiple medals, including the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Korean Service Medal.  He spent the majority of his life as the owner of Hassman Termite and Pest Control, a company he built with his wife and best friend Marlene. Through hard work they established and grew a business which has seen over 60 years of success, eventually including their sons and grandchildren. Howard was President of the Kansas Pest Control Association and in 2010 was elected to the Kansas Pest Control Association's Hall of Fame.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, his parents, four sisters (Vonda, Ilo, Glenda, and Leah Joanne), and two brothers (Willis and Richard). Survivors include his son Mark (Mary) Hassman and Mike (Angela) Hassman and three grandchildren, Amanda Hassman, Ashley Hassman, and Andrew Hassman. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and longtime friend Phyllis Beisel.  The viewing will take place at Ryan Mortuary in Salina on Monday, September 9 from 5-9 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm. A service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on September 10 at 10 am, with burial immediately following at Roselawn Cemetery. There will be a lunch served at Trinity Lutheran Church after the committal.  Memorials may be made to VFW Post #1432 or Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.
