JOYCE THORBURN Obituary

JOYCE THORBURN Joyce Ann Thorburn, 87, of McPherson. KS passed away, August 11, 2025, at McPherson Health and Rehab. Joyce was born in Hillsboro, KS on October 14, 1937 the daughter of Alvin Henry and Martha (Jost) Kasper. Joyce attended a country school between Canton and Lehigh, Hillsboro Elementary School, and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1955. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, McPherson, where Joyce and her husband Archie were faithful members, custodians for several years, and served their church in other capacities such as supplying homemade chocolate chip cookies. Joyce was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked for the National Cooperative Refinery Association, now known as CHS as an Operator #3 Cat Cracking Unit. She was a member of TOPS club. She enjoyed KU Basketball, reading, baking and making Christmas candy, and spending time with family and friends. Joyce was united in marriage to Clinton Williams on August 9, 1957 at Springfield Mennonite Church, rural Lehigh. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Kathy "Kat", Bradley "Brad", and Timothy "Tim". Joyce was united in marriage to Archie Leroy Thorburn on July 18, 1980 at Canton, KS. This union added Archie's daughters, Connie and Cindy. The couple established their first home together in McPherson. Archie died on January 26, 2016. She is survived by her children, Kathy Dwinell, of McPherson. Brad D. (Renee) Williams, of McPherson, Tim Williams, of McPherson, Connie (Don) Koehn of Canton, KS and Cindy (Willy) Crane of Roxbury, KS; grandchildren, Brandy (Gale) Wenthe , Matthew (Kiley) Farnsworth, Cate (Ron) Sharp , Weston (Lindsay) Mizell, Zac (Alyson) Crane, Kylie (Tate) Sneath, J.D. Holder, Erin (Cody) Heiman, and Jacayla Casebeer; great-grandchildren, Bryce Wenthe, Braylan Wenthe, Jaxon Chrislip, Emery Farnsworth, Ally Sharp, Brecken Sharp, Grace Mizell, June Mizell, Keaton Crane, Max Crane, Landri Crane, Ellana See, Samantha See, Kyndall Sutton, Deegan Heiman, Mali Casebeer, Holden Heiman, Amaya Sneath and Hunter Sneath; and brother Don (Bonnie) Kasper of Topeka, KS. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Archie Thorburn. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., with the Funeral Service beginning at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 15, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church, McPherson, with Pastor Dan Cate officiating. Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, 222 West Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67460.

Joyce was always someone who loved others and I will never forget her laughter and words of advice as a young mother when I came to Calvary. She opened her home for a women´s gathering. And she loved her little dog. This world is missing a light now. I am truly sorry for you loss.
