Albert Mulhair Obituary

Albert "Al" Dale Mulhair was born on May 29,1947, in Lynch, Nebraska. Growing up, if he wasn't in Lynch, he could be found in Sioux City, Iowa, or at his aunt and uncle's beloved family farm near Verdel, Nebraska - the place that helped shape his lifelong appreciation for hard work, family, and a good story. After joining the U.S. Army in 1966, Uncle Sam decided Al should spend some quality time in Vietnam. Later stationed at Fort Benning, he discovered that southern sunshine was far more appealing than Nebraska winters. In 1969, he joined the Atlanta Police Department-taking advantage of a program that let him leave the Army 90 days early, with a genius plan to quit on day 91. Thirty-seven years later, he finally followed through - retiring as a Lieutenant, having built a career filled with friendship, laughter, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting. Al was a professional troublemaker in all the best ways - quick with a comeback and always up for a debate with anyone foolish enough to take him on. He loved his family fiercely, saw the world through his camera lens, and would happily travel anywhere - as long as it didn't involve an airplane. He was the rock his family all leaned on - calm, steady, dependable, and quietly funny in the moments that mattered most. His love, strength, and humor will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. A private graveside service will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Goldie; sister, Sandra (Steve); and late wife Rita. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Mulhair; daughter Amanda (Tony) Harmsen and her children Derek, Lola (Gabe) Tatum, Walker, and Paige, and great-grandson Gabe Tatum; daughter Myra (Kevin) Mawn and her daughter Allison; son Jason (Amy) and his son Caden; and his sister Shelia (Denny). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Church of St. Ann Habitat for Humanity (4905 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA) or Crazy Horse Memorial ([email protected]). As Al might have said - if you're going to tell stories about him, make them good ones.
