Delree N. Friant

Mrs. Delree N. Friant, of Austell, Georgia passed on Monday, September 15th, 2025. Born on May 4th, 1932, in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a proud graduate of Yokohama American High School in Japan. A memorial service for Mrs. Friant will be held on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 AM at Austell First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dorcas Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elsie L. Newman and Lt. Col. Mancel L. Newman, her husband Major Robert S. Friant, and her daughter Jeanne Michele Friant. Mrs. Friant is survived by her daughter Annette M. Friant along with many friends and family. After moving to Austell in 1971, Mrs. Friant became interested in local government. She was the first woman to serve on the Austell City Council where she became president of the Cobb Municipal Association. She served on the Northwest Cobb Hospital Health Foundation and was a member of the Austell First United Methodist Church where she was on several boards and committees. She served on Austell Woman's Club, Cobb- Marietta Girls Club, Cobb Service for the Blind and Visually Impaired, YWCA, South Cobb Improvement Association, and Cobb Chamber's Youth Leadership Steering Committee. Mrs. Friant lived in many places being the daughter of a service member, including places like Japan, Bermuda, Texas, Germany, Colorado and Tennessee. She and her husband of 61 years loved traveling and did so nationally and internationally every chance they got.
