Obituary for Jack Gordon Ruffner
Jack, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on October 25th surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, to Gordon and Arawana Ruffner, Jack, along with his sisters, Judy and Jill, grew up in Somerset and Frankfort Kentucky.
A proud graduate from Frankfort High School, Jack excelled as a triathlete and built friendships that lasted a lifetime. He went on to attend the University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University, and Eastern Kentucky University. Throughout his life he remained a loyal and passionate Wildcat fan, especially when it came to UK Basketball.
After college, he ventured to California and Miami before making Atlanta his home. He went on to build a successful career with Fleming Carpet, where coworkers and customers quickly became like family. Through his dedication, integrity, and genuine care for others, Jack earned the respect and admiration of everyone he worked with.
Jack had a gift for making friends wherever he went-he truly never met a stranger. Full of energy, kindness, and humor; he was the life of every party.
As an avid golfer, Jack not only loved the game; he loved the camaraderie. Some of his favorite memories were made alongside family and friends at courses like Pinetree, Fields Ferry, Quail Run and Pebble Beach. He found great happiness in sharing his skill and passion for the game with so many.
A devoted family man, Jack considered his greatest achievement to be the family he and Cathy built over their 45 years of marriage. He never missed a chance to support their children-Martha, Abby, and Hilary-and delighted in cheering on his grandchildren, Lizzie, Gabe, Declan, and Jack. Whether he was in the audience at a dance performance or on the sidelines of a softball/baseball game, tennis match or swim meet, his presence, laughter, and unwavering encouragement filled every moment.
Jack lived life to the fullest-kind, joyful, and forever making those around him feel like old friends. His legacy of love, laughter, and genuine connection will continue to shine through everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Saturday, November 1st at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm with service to follow at 3:00 pm.
Jack was deeply grateful to the compassionate team at the Wellstar Cancer Center for their exceptional care and kindness. Wishing to support others facing similar challenges, he and his family request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Wellstar Foundation in Support of Cancer Care,
