James Sims Obituary

James Thomas Sims, born September 29, 1950, passed peacefully on November 14, 2025, losing his battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Spartanburg, SC. Moved to Forth Worth, TX at the age of 12, and ended up in Marietta, GA when he was in high school.

"Papa" as he was commonly referred to in his later years is from having six grandchildren, all boys.

James is proceeded in death by his parents, Russell Clayton Sims and Lois Evelyn Sims. He is survived by his siblings Virginia Newman, Linda Ensley, William Sims (Debbie), Jane Meade, and Martha Darling (Bruce), his children David Sims, Pamela McClure (Wes), six, Brandon Sims, Nathan Sims, Timothy Sims, Alexander McClure, Andrew James Sims, and Mason Sims, along with many other family members who loved him dearly.

James was best known for taking care of everybody, regardless of how it affected him directly. His heart was bigger than anyone can imagine, and he found pride in this, and anyone who ever knew him or met him would agree.

God gained a beautiful angel, truly. Although difficult, we are so thankful he is free of pain and able to help anyone in need, as that ultimately seemed to be his calling in life!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 29 th at the Keheley Center at St. Andrew UMC Marietta. 3455 Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30066, from 12pm - 2pm.

This will be an informal potluck/buffet-style gathering, where the dress code, although not required, is of blue jeans, a flannel or plaid shirt, or your favorite Georgia gear. I hope you all can join to help celebrate the life of this wonderful man!
