Mary Wilson Obituary

Mary Patricia "Pat" (Barnum) Wilson, 93, of Marietta, Georgia passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023. Pat was born on August 7, 1929 to F.R. "Pete" and Margaret Barnum in Lockport, New York. She obtained her teaching degree as a young woman and set course on a lifelong passion of spending time with young people. For many years Pat was a much loved and often recognized substitute teacher at East Valley Elementary School in Marietta Georgia. She shared her love of reading with every child she met, delighting them with stories read from "Ramona" and "The Great Brain".

Pat was happily married to Chief Master Sergeant George Wilson for 67 years prior to his death in January 2021.

Dedicated in her faith, Pat was a founding parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia.

Pat is survived by her five children George Wilson (Kathy) of Monroe, Georgia, Mark Wilson (Wendy) of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Theresa Wilson Kotch (Mark) of Livermore, California, Catherine Wilson Taylor (Calvin Knott) of Jackson, Mississippi and Sheila Wilson Valk (Tim) of Cartersville, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister Anne Marchioni and brother Edward Barnum. Pat cherished her thirteen grandchildren and twenty two great- grandchildren and she is remembered for the loving attention she gave each of them.

A mass will be said for Pat at 11 am on February 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cartersville, Georgia. Following the mass, a private burial will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
