Philip Stanley Obituary

Philip Gillespie Stanley, III, 78 of Mineral Bluff passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

Philip was born on September 5, 1946 and grew up in Gainesville as the only child of Philip and Laverne Stanley. He attended school in Hall county during his youth and graduated from Gainesville High School. Growing up he learned values and work ethic from a tough mother and the Boy Scouts. He worked repairing chicken coops and caddied at Chattahoochee Golf Club as a teen. He enjoyed playing golf and water skiing in his free time.

After high school, Philip attended Georgia Tech. It was in Atlanta that he met his wife, Nancy Bacon Stanley. Philip and Nancy married and settled in Smyrna where they raised their children, Michelle and Scott. He worked for more than 30 years at Delta Airlines as a Payroll manager.

Philip was a talented carpenter, mechanic, gardener and jack of all trades. After retirement they purchased a home in Mineral Bluff and later moved there permanently.

He enjoyed his grandchildren and his neighbors in Mineral Bluff. Philip could often be seen out visiting up and down his road and he was declared the Mayor of Fish Trap Trail by his neighbors.

Philip was preceded in death by his father Philip Gillespie, Stanley Jr. and mother Laverne Stanley and his wife Nancy of 51 years. Survivors include Michelle Batson and her husband Lee and son Scott Stanley and his wife Jennifer and 5 grandchildren, Chris, Maddie, Ellie, Ben and Wright.

Graveside services will be held 3pm, Wednesday, June 18th at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm Wednesday at Carmichael funeral home in Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fannin County Community Ministries, Inc (FCCM).
