Frank Maurice Obituary

Frank Eliot Agresti Maurice, 62, passed away at his Westport home on Aug. 10, 2017, two months after he was diagnosed with cancer. To the end, Frank was the ever-loyal husband, friend, co-worker and dedicated first responder.
Frank's life was one of many distinct chapters connected by the common threads of love of life and service to others. He began his life as a Southern California kid. On Feb. 1, 1955, in Newport Beach, Frank was born to John Agresti Maurice and Noel West Maurice. He grew up in South Laguna, where his family has deep, multi-generational roots. Frank took full advantage of the nearby beaches to swim, surf and water-ski. Frank's mother died suddenly in 1967 and the family relocated to San Juan Capistrano two years later after Frank's father remarried.
Frank's passion for music began at age 16 when he taught himself to play a guitar that he had purchased in Tijuana. Frank's first love, however, was the harmonica with which he delighted friends and family for years.
From his 20s through early 40s, Frank advanced his career in produce sales with an expertise in organic farming. He traveled extensively, including to Thailand where he trained local farmers and introduced disease-resistant avocados to the region. Frank also owned and managed his own produce company, growing baby vegetables in Baja, Mexico and Costa Rica, and importing specialty items for sale in the Los Angeles markets. From 1998 to 2000, Frank worked at Three Springs Ranch in Escondido, California, where his boss, Lin Taylor, would ultimately become his wife.
In 2001, Frank and Lin moved to the Mendocino Coast after a careful search for a special place to live. They bought ocean-view land in Westport, where they would design and build their beautiful dream home a few years later.
On May 17, 2002, Frank and Lin were married at the Albion River Inn. They quickly became immersed in the Coast community, with Frank working for Origin Construction for three years followed by three years with the Westport Water District.
In 2008, Frank made a major career move, becoming a licensed real estate agent with Century 21 Real Estate in Fort Bragg. He loved matching his clients with the homes of their dreams and was known for his unrelenting commitment to serving his clients.
In addition to his daily occupation, Frank was an extremely dedicated member of the Westport Fire Department. He joined the fire department in 2004 and became an EMT in 2005. In 2006, Frank was elected as Fire Captain and served in that role continuously until he was elected Fire Chief in 2014. Frank's dedication to protecting the community he loved was unsurpassed.
Frank's commitment to volunteerism also extended to his profession, as he served on the Coastal Mendocino Association of Realtors (CMAR) board for four years. In 2016, Frank's extensive contribution to the community was honored when he received the CMAR Humanitarian Award.
Frank leaves behind his wife, Lin Taylor Maurice, Ph.D., of Westport; sisters, Johanna ("Jodi") Agresti Maurice of Escondido, California and Patricia Helene Agresti Maurice of Oakland, California; nephews, Tristan John Maurice Reischl (Jennifer) and Colin Sean Agresti Reischl; two grand-nieces; several cousins in Surrey, England; many, many beloved friends and co-workers, and his "furry kids," Lucky, his beloved side-kick, and Kaptn, Otis and Voodoo.
A celebration of Frank's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at the Westport Hotel. Please bring a dish and memories to share.
