Atwater, California - Alvin David (Dave) Prows was born January 9, 1934, in Planada, CA, to Alvin and Goldie Prows. Dave grew up in Merced County and attended Merced High School Class of 1952. Dave left this world to wait for Janice on July 22, 2022, after a long illness.
Upon graduating high school, Dave joined the U.S. Marine Corps. and served in Japan, before being honorably discharged in 1956.
Dave worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company for a short time before joining Atwater Police Department in 1957. Dave left Atwater Police Department and joined the California Highway Patrol in 1958. Dave served the communities of Barstow and Victorville before being transferred back to Merced in 1961. Dave promoted to Sergeant in 1967, and was assigned to the West Los Angeles Area. Dave transferred back to the Merced Area office in 1968, where he would remain until his retirement in 1984. One of the very few things Dave failed at in his life, was retirement. Dave returned to the workforce for the California Highway Patrol as a non-uniformed Motor Carrier Specialist. Dave worked in Central Division serving the Modesto and Merced Areas from 1984 until he "retired" again in 1995.
Dave and his wife of 50 years, Janice moved from Atwater to Cassel, near Burney to spend their retirement years. Dave's retirement lasted until 1997, when he went to work as a substitute school bus driver for the Fall River Joint Unified School District. This quickly transitioned into a full-time job. Dave eventually became the Transportation Supervisor in 2002, until he returned to his bus driving duties in 2005, eventually retiring again in 2009.
Dave and Janice relocated to Jackson, CA then back to Atwater to be closer to family.
Dave is survived by his bride of 50 years, Janice, 5 daughters; Pam (Bill), Margie, Patty, Debbie (Dave) and Shelley (David) and his son, Brad (Sylvia), Dave and Janice have 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 2:00 P.M.
