David Ichord Obituary
June 3, 1945 - January 6, 2025
Merced, California - David Thomas Ichord joined his parents, brother and ancestors in heaven 06 Jan 2025, and will be missed beyond measure by his family and many friends. David was born to a Modesto ranching family 03 June 1945 and grew up where the Downey High School now stands. He attended West Valley College, obtained his surveyor license and worked as a general contractor all over the state where he developed his ability to give you directions to any town, or critique any restaurant. David lovingly built all the decks and wood interiors of his humble Merced home, the Mulberry House, built in 1902. David and his late wife, Chris, created and ran the Parkway Nursery until her death in 1998.
His retirement years were full of travels, journeys, road trips and more fun than any person could dream of. He was incredibly kind and never waivered to help someone in need, especially animals. David would laugh and say he wants to come back as a spoiled Ichord pet. His endless sense of humor was not to be denied, family and friends were never disappointed, and David polished stubborn into an art form. There will never be enough time or space to sufficiently describe his life or the joy he brought to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Ichord and Betty Pitts Ichord, his brother Richard Ichord, and nephew Richard Ichord Jr. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anne, children Glori (Dave), Kelly (JD), Kristi (Jake), Erica (Damon), John (Stacey) and Jena (Robert), grandchildren Justin (Ashleigh), Sean (Heather), Scott, Jake (Ladan), Matthew, Casey, Kimber and Sam, Spencer and Teige, Caden and Ashton, Emerie and Paige, Landon and Charlotte, great grandchild Jasper, and nephew Tim and niece Tammy.
David's memorial potluck gathering will be held on Sunday the 26th of January 2025 at the Elks Lodge, 1910 M Street, 19th street entrance, Merced. In lieu of flowers, donations to the David Ichord Memorial Veterinary Scholarship Fund at Merced Junior College (209.384.6176) would be greatly appreciated.
