Atwater , California - Dubravka Debby Hoban also known as Debby, Duda, Sister, Mom, Grandma, Aunt Deb, Cookies and Candy Lady, was a good friend, leader, patriot, and cook. After a battle with body cancer, she went to the Lord in peace, at La Sierra Nursing Recovery Center on Monday morning, September 26, 2022. Her family then gathered to wish her a safe journey to her heavenly father. She had always done things for others, always putting them first, until she was no longer physically able too.
She was born on August 25,1941 in Sisak, (Yugoslavia) Croatia, to Vera Maria (Mikulic) Adamovich and Captain Dragon Mihajlo Adamovich of the Kings Army in the Calvary of (Yugoslavia) Croatia, who was a POW in Germany until the end of World War II. After being liberated from his WW2 capture by the English Armed Forces, he was offered U.S. Citizenship for his post-war efforts. He emigrated to Middletown, Ohio where he established a home, later joined by Debby, her sister Radmila, and mother Vera who had emigrated to the U.S. to meet their father and husband. This is where Debby met her father for the very first time; Debby attended Middletown High School, speaking broken English, but took a class to learn proper English. She graduated with honors.
Upon Graduation she went to work for Diamond Match Corporation and earned U.S. citizenship. She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963 and became an Airman Administrative Clerical Person in the Military Personnel Offices, later promoted to sergeant. This is where she met and later married David Hoban, an Aircraft Maintenance Instructor to whom she was married for 58 years. They were later transferred to Dover A.F.B. Delaware. Though honorably discharged in 1966, she continued in military service as a Civil Service Secretary, spending a total of 26 years working for the armed forces. Afterwards she worked for Merced County serving a variety of roles, before retiring.
Debby was a 48-year resident of Atwater, CA, actively involved in her community, as well as a number of clubs and organizations which included Red Cross, NCO Wives Club, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Purple Hat Society, VFW Winton Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to cook and help others with a genuine heart of giving selflessly. If you needed a meal or a dish, she put love into it with nothing in return. She was loved by all who knew her, she was a proud Wife, Mother, Sister, Sister In-law, grandmother, and aunt, who touched all those around her throughout the years. Most of all she loved her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Dragon and Vera M. Adamovich, and her daughter Melissa (Missy) Calzadillas. She is survived by her Husband David G. Hoban, Sister Radmila Sullivan, Daughter Mila Hoban-Munden, Son-in-Law Andrew Calzadillas, Daughter-in-Law Tammie Calzadillas, Grandchildren, Adam Munden, Zachary Calizadillas and Paige Calzadillas
Visitation & Rosary will be Monday, October 24th, Visitation being 3:00pm - 6:00pm, and Rosary to begin at 6:00pm at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel 1290 Winton Way in Atwater, Ca.
The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 25th 11:00am at The Hope Church 2100 Fruitland Ave., Atwater Ca 95301. A reception will follow from 1:30pm - 5:30pm at the Winton VFW Post 7792, 7093 Walnut Ave., Winton Ca 95388
Burial Services will be Wednesday October 26th at 1:00pm. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 McCabe Road Santa Nella, CA. 95322.
