Gary Comer Obituary
May 6, 1949 - December 9, 2021
Merced, California - Gary Charles Comer passed into eternity on December 9, 2021, in Merced, California. He was born in Fresno, California on May 6, 1949, to Clay & Glenis Comer. Gary graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1968 and went on to complete his bachelor's degree in Psychology at Fresno State. For nearly 30 years, he worked at Merced County Department of Mental Health as a crisis counselor, program manager, & later as an educator for the Department and law enforcement agencies. Gary also served as a deacon in Winton, California and pastored churches in Delhi & Madera, California. He loved the Lord and had a heart for the downtrodden. He is survived by his children, Garet Comer (sp. Jennifer); Tessa Watson (sp. Matt); 3 grandchildren: Ethan, Emma, & Benjamin Comer; brother, Ron Comer; sister, Judy Ramirez; & their families. A viewing will take place at Stephens & Bean Funeral Chapel in Fresno on Monday, 12/20, from 3-7pm & funeral services will take place on Tuesday, 12/21, at 11am.

I'm saddened by your passing Gary. I had so much fun with you in school. You had the BEST and BIGGEST smile ever. You were such a great friend to everyone. God Bless you gary and your Family too.

In the summer of 1969, Gary and I were roommates, living in a shack in Mendota and working in the cantaloupe harvest. I first met Gary when he was a Fresno Bee carrier at the District Four Beehouse, where we folded our newspapers. Gary and I became reacquainted at Roosevelt High School and had many adventures in our first two years at Fresno City College. I remember Gary asked me to teach him how to sail his Catalina sailboat at Lake Merced in the `90´s. We became reacquainted again, meeting at a state mental health meeting in San Francisco, where we spent the day together and had a nice dinner in North Beach. The last time I saw Gay and his wife, was when I was invited by one of my students at Madera College to attend his wedding, officiated by Gary. I always considered Gary a very good friend, and I´m deeply saddened by his passing.
