Greg Carter Obituary

Greg Alan Carter

June 13, 1958 - October 30, 2024

Merced, California - Greg Alan Carter - Born on Friday, June 13, 1958 and passed peacefully at home on October 30, 2024 at the age of 66. He battled with stage 4 cancer for 4 years.

Greg lived in Merced all his life. He went to surrounding schools and even had his first job at 8, mowing lawns in the Harris Acres neighborhood.

Greg was very athletic. In 1969 he played football for the Merced Jaycee JV Packers, and so many other teams to mention. He enjoyed coaching Kiwanis little league baseball at 16. He became a great pitcher for MHS and was voted Most Valuable Player in 1977.

When Greg met Gloria, it was love at first sight. They married a few months later and continued their marriage for 37 years.

Greg went on to be a plumber, off-set printer, and construction worker. He opened up The Ink Spot Printer and printed for the surrounding communities for 15 years. Finally, Greg achieved his dream of buying homes, flipping them and along the way, becoming a successful landlord.

Greg leaves behind Gloria, his wife of 37 years, his daughter Berklee (Donovan) Olson, and son Justin Carter, and step-daughter Fonda (Dan) Sanchez.

Greg will be dearly missed and a spreading of his ashes will take place on the beautiful waves of the Pacific and will be private.

Some snapshots of my cousin Gregory Allen that we all grew up with.
His parents were Kenneth, (Kenny) and Peggy Acree Carter.
Greg´s eldest sister Joni went before him, but he is survived from his two remaining siblings, sister Susan Carter Armstrong, (Jim), and brother Kevin, (Margaret).
Our Carter family will all miss Greg. We will hold on tightly to our memories growing up in this big family with aunts, uncles, grandparents, the holidays and any reason to gather.
Greg was afflicted with GuillenBarre syndrome in the height of his athletic career in high school. He was wheel chair bound at age 17 until the disease ran its course. His family steadfastly supported his recovery which took one year. It set him back but he came back stronger than ever from his athletic background where he achieved his HS awards for baseball. Greg was an all around athlete. He excelled in football for many years before honing it to baseball. Greg had wicked strength and aim
In his left pitching arm. It was rare when a batter could hit off of Greg´s fast pitch or curve ball which his dad taught him.
His life is. Real come back story where he was afflicted by a debilitating disease young, endured it and came back stronger. That is what life long Mercedians and family will remember most about Greg. Tenacity and up for any struggle.
Peace my dear cousin. I´m sure your parents and sister were there to greet you with open arms and abundance of unconditional love as always.
