Kurt Sabo Obituary

Kurt Michael "Curly" Sabo
January 12, 1955 - April 3, 2023
South Lake Tahoe, California - Kurt "Curly" Sabo passed peacefully of natural causes in his sleep on April 3, 2023, at the age of 68. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Norma (Crookham) Sabo and step-mom, Rose Eager Sabo. Kurt attended Our Lady of Mercy School, graduated Merced High class of 1973 as Student Body President, attended Merced College & Columbia College. His love of the outdoors led Kurt to the ski slopes in 4th grade, racing school at Red Lodge Montana, & the Ski Team at Squaw Valley. In recent years he was a ski instructor at Dodge Ridge. Kurt spent 2 summers working at his uncle Barney Sabo's Evergreen Lodge, Lake Louise, Alaska. As a General Contractor (Kurt Sabo Construction) he built & remodeled homes in & around Merced, Twain Harte, Tahoe, Sonoma County, & the Bay Area. While living in Alameda Kurt crewed on sail boats, racing on the Bay, sailing to & from Hawaii & along the West coast, winning 2d in Class in the PAC Cup race from SF to Hawaii. Kurt was a USCG 100 Ton Master. Some of his happiest times were spent on the water with friends & family. He enjoyed taking us out on the Bay to celebrate Opening Day, July 4th, or just to enjoy a beautiful day. After living in Twain Harte for several years Kurt returned to Tahoe in 2018. He joined the yacht club, sailed, fished, & reunited with old friends and family. Kurt is survived by his sister, Jody Sabo Quaster (Art) of Sebastopol, aunt, Teri Sabo Everson of Saratoga, many cousins, & extended family. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him, especially for his sense of humor, his deep appreciation of family and friends, and his great spirit of adventure. According to Kurt's wishes there will be no public memorial service. Please take some time to recall and share your fondest memories of Kurt and hug your loved ones.

Sad to hear of Kurt's passing. It's been some time since I saw him in Twain Harte but he was always fun and I enjoyed working on some of his construction projects with him and some golf in TH. Rest in peace Buddy!

Kurt, what a cutie, what a sweetie, my pleasure to say we spent childhood together and that is a huge blessing right there.
In 2nd grade we had secret Santa. When you got to my desk, you sap, "I got you those." They were a set of soap snowmen. You were already in the snow in your heart. Till we meet again my friend. Love you.
