Maurice Alfred Trejo, 77, of Merced Califorina, passed away on Februbary 24, 2016. Maurice was born in San Luis Obispo to Alfred and Geneva Trejo on June 9, 1938. He graduated from Merced High School and played football for the Merced Bears. It was at one such game he met his future bride of 57 years Velia Chacon. After marrying in Merced, CA on December 21, 1957, Maurice and Velia had two sons. They adopted William Trejo and were later blessed with the birth of Maurice A. Trejo, Jr.
Maurice had a long career in construction and road paving/grading and was always ready with a smile and a joke. Many will remember his larger than life laugh.
Maurice had a huge positive impact on all around him, both family and a large circle of friends. He was never one to complain and was always there offering a helping hand. He loved to laugh, dance and thought nothing of climbing into the car for a quick drive to L.A to visit family or maybe a stop at Olvera Street for taquitos. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, camping, hunting and later in life visiting with his loved ones, surrounded by various beloved dogs.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Velia Trejo, his son Maurice A. Trejo, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sharon Wardale-Trejo, his sisters Jean McLaughlin and Patricia Thurlby, his nieces, Rose Cortez and Debroah Thurlby, and many loved extended family members.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to your favorite charity or the American Heart Association. The family of Maurice Trejo wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to the doctors and the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center Merced emergency room for their efforts and caring during this difficult time.
A service in memory of his life will be held on Saturday, March 5th 2016, starting at 1pm at First Baptist Church located at 500 Buena Vista Drive, Merced CA. A reception at First Baptist Church will follow immediately after the service.
