Robert Butler Obituary
August 29, 1958 - June 30, 2022
Merced, California - Robert J. Butler, M.D. passed away on June 30th, 2022 following a long battle with his health at the age of 63. Robert was born on August 29th 1958 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Robert and Dorothy Butler. He grew up in Los Banos, CA where his family moved before his first birthday. He attended Northwestern University where he obtained his medical degree followed by completion of his residency in Internal Medicine. He practiced medicine as a Board Certified Internist in Centreville, Alabama and Merced, California. He was a highly respected Catholic physician who was known for the excellent and compassionate care he gave to his patients. This included spending extra time with patients and their families; going 'above and beyond' in attending to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Butler. He will be remembered not only as an outstanding physician, but also as a loving dad, grandpa, brother and friend. He is survived by his children Stephen, David, Brian, Jessica, Joseph, John, James, Jacob, Julianna, Jordan and Justina and his five grandchildren Mia, McKenna, Aiden, Grant and Henry. He is also survived by his seven siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral arrangements have been made through the Whitehurst funeral home in Los Banos, CA. The funeral Mass will take place at 10:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Merced on Wednesday, July 13th. The family appreciates the love and care shown to us by them and the community.

I am so sad that I just found out this wonderful man went to Heaven. I would have been honored to pay my last respects to this great man. Dr. Robert Butler was not only the best doctor I have ever had but one of the best, most caring persons on this earth. I am sure there are so many people who feel the same.

We first met Dr Butler when he became my mom's Dr in bibb county Alabama and he then became my Dr also (Cathy) and I became close to Fredna and Him and the kids who were little at the time as they was and are very much loved...He was one of a kind a Dr a friend and very passionate on the church and always help others and loved all his kids and grandkids and he once told me long ago his kids was his life and a blessing I am so sorry for your lost and pray that you can find healing in knowing he is and will be with you all always ...Hugs and tons of love and the two photos below was taken when I was out there to visit him and Fredna and met his mom and dad and the others ~

Dr. Butler was both an amazing doctor and a wonderful friend. He was ready to listen, and often shared himself. We often prayed together, and for each other. He cared for me from the first day I met him at the urgent care, and also for my family. He was a trusted advisor and helper to my children, and was always ready to answer a call in the middle of the night. In his office, we never minded the wait, because we knew he was inside serving someone with all his heart, and would do the same for us. May the Lord bless you and keep you, my friend, may He make his face to shine upon you and give you rest. Much love

I met Robert when he came to my home to examine my granddaughter after she had surgery. Then he examined my disabled daughter to make sure she was getting proper treatment. He closed his office and traveled two hours to my home because he was concerned. He did this as a favor to my sister. Afterwards he bought us all dinner. Incredible and compassionate person. I will never forget his kindness.

Dr. Butler exemplified being the very best in his field. He had vast knowledge of medical symtoms, was a great communicator and most importantly, he had a genuine feeling for his patients. I was always confident that I was going to get great care from a visit to his office. Merced has truly lost one of the best. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences and prayers for the family. Dr. Butler was the best doctor ever! Great listener. Diagnostician extraordinaire! So caring, concerned, and knowledgeable. We had so many wonderful conversations about the Butler family over the years. He always kept me up-to-date on his Mom and Joseph in particular. I pray God's comfort in your time of sorrow.

The care and friendship he gave to our family during our most difficult time was above and beyond what any doctor has ever shown us and we will always appreciate that. I had the pleasure working for Dr. Butler in 2017. He is part of the reason for my successes in my career. Mainly for reading ekgs (of course you learn this in school) but Dr. B would sit with me (the exam and waiting rooms full with patients..hehe) to make sure I understood every part of the ekg strip. Dr. Butlers bedside manner is unmatched. He was thorough with his patients and staff and made sure everyone was comfortable with the plan of care. Thank you for being my mentor. I gained so many skills, knowledge and memories durning my term of employment that I will cherish. My heart breaks for the Butler Family. Sending my prayers and condolences. Rest easy Dr. Butler.
