Winton, California - Sandy, age 62, was born to Abel and Elva Salinas in Nyssa, OR and as a young boy moved to Texas, then to California where he became a long time resident of Winton, CA. Sandy passed away unexpectedly in his home on December 12, 2020. He is the third oldest of seven children and the second son born to Abel and Elva. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend to many.
Sandy attended Winton Elementary School, Frank Sparks School and graduated from Atwater High School in 1977. He worked for Hamptons Wrecking Yard for many years, then went to work for Atwater Auto Wrecker. Sandy also known as "Dog" was an excellent mechanic. He raced cars at Merced Speedway, and loved long rides on his Harley in his younger days. He enjoyed building model cars, collecting Hot Wheels and tinkering around on old cars.
Sandy is preceded in death by his two sisters; Sylvia Salinas and Soyla Salinas, his brother; Simon Salinas, and two grandmothers; Sofia Espinoza Saenz and Evangelina Garza Cortez. Sandy is survived by his parents; Abel and Elva Salinas, three sisters; Sonia Salinas, Selma Salinas, and Sofia Hurtado (Fernando); three children; Sofia Gonzalez (Ed), Sandy Salinas Jr. and Jenna Holmes; and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind six nieces, four nephews, ten great nieces and nephews, one great-great nephew, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Graveside service will be held Saturday January 16, 2021 at 2:00pm at Winton Cemetery District 7651 Almond Avenue, Winton CA 95388. Reception will follow after funeral services.
