William David Jones, an Atwater resident, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 49 years of age. He was born March 8, 1960 in Quincy, IL to Betty and John Jones. Bill graduated from Quincy High School in 1978 and Rockhurst College, in Kansas City in 1982. He spent most of his career in sales of metal buildings and building components. Bill was an Eagle Scout and also served as Scout Master. He was a past member of the Merced Elks Lodge.
Bill enjoyed golf and also going fishing but the true joy and love of his life was his son Darius. Bill bought Darius a Honda 70 Dirt Bike and they just began to travel to bike races. Bill loved their time together racing and he gladly became a “grease monkey” for his son. Bill was a “down to earth” kind of guy who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 15 years Diana and his wonderful son Darius. He also leaves behind his mother Betty Jones of Quincy, IL and his in-laws Jim and Karen Bowman.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to take place at 6:00 p.m. at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way, Atwater. Pastor Shaun Vaught of the Christian Worship Center of Merced will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UBS Financial Office in Merced for the benefit of Darius Jones.
