Al Furtado Obituary

Al Furtado
7/26/33 - 3/1/14
Lifetime Resident of Sunnyvale
Dad passed away on March 1st in Mt. View following a prolonged illness.
Born in San Jose on July 26, 1933, Dad attended Sunnyvale Elementary and graduated from Fremont High School, class of 1952. He was the school's photographer all through high school and never missed an athletic event or school dance. Following high school he joined the Air Force and served our country in Korea and Japan.
Upon his return, Dad joined Hewlett-Packard where he met and married my mom. Together we became a family and formed a lifetime bond. Even at the age of four it was obvious that my Dad was a special guy.
Dad worked for Hewlett-Packard for forty years. After starting in Palo Alto working directly for Dave Packard, he retired from the Sunnyvale plant on Argues Ave. in 1997.
Dad was involved with the Craftsman Guild and he and mom spent many summers in their motor home traveling through the Pacific Northwest attending wood carving seminars and making many lifelong friends along the way. He also enjoyed making different kinds of jewelry for many years.
Through the years we all went camping, hunting and fishing, attended many HP picnics and spent countless hours in Half Moon Bay walking on San Gregorio Beach and having lunch in Pescadero.
Dad leaves behind my mom Pat, his wife of 55 years, his daughter Sheree, his two granddaughters, Dr. Sarah Crilly, DVM and her fiancé Griffin, and Samantha and her husband Justin. Dad was well enough to attend Samantha's recent wedding and dance the jitterbug with mom. His father, Joe, his mother, Frieda, and his brother John and his wife Carol, preceded him in death.
He also leaves behind his lifelong friend, Jim Cole who was like a brother to dad and was a member of our family.
Dad will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is gone from our presence but forever in our hearts.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 1pm at Spangler Mortuaries, Sunnyvale Chapel, 174 North Sunnyvale Ave., Sunnyvale, CA. 94086
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Humane Society/Silicon Valley, Santa Clara Sheriff's Dept/Search and Rescue or the American Lung Association.

Al was a wonderful guy. I first met him at the HP Arques, cafeteria in the mid 70's. As a credit union employee it was my pleasure to serve him. I always looked forward to those visits and his terrific smile and humor. My love and blessings to the family. We are glad he no longer suffers and know he is safe in God's arms. Our prayers are with you.

Al was a mentor to me from the time I started working at HP. Whatever pie-in-the-sky ideas I had, were balanced by his years of experience a great common sense.
