I'll miss Al. When I showed up at the SJ Bridge Center on Thursday nights seeking a partner, he always welcomed me, and would play with me himself if he couldn't find me a partner. I grew to respect Al's playing greatly, and he also mentored me in etiquette -- always championing the beginners and the little people, against the arrogant and powerful. Maybe I'll return to playing more regularly, to promulgate Al's philosophy in his absence. I'll miss Al.

I'm so sorry to hear of Al's illness and passing. He was a mentor to so many of us in the valley, teaching us about bridge .. and life .. always with patience and kindness. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

I spent most of my life and career in the Santa Clara Valley and remember Al with great fondness. He was one of the people at the Bridge Club who always remained calm and collected and could be counted upon to play a good game. I had great respect for Al and offer my condolences to his family and friends.

Sue and Barbie,
My sincere condolences to you about the loss of your father and brother. Since moving to the Mt.Shasta area, Alan and I only had occasional phone conversations. I was shocked to hear he had cancer and had passed on. I have many fond memories of him especially the years of bridge playing in the San Jose Area. Sincerely, Nancy Girvin
