Anh was born in the town of Tra Vinh in Vietnam. She married her husband, Xuyen Luong, and had two children who were both lost. She was a teacher until she immigrated to the United States. She settled in the City of Concord, California in 1980 and in 4 years she bore 3 children, one daughter and two sons.
She is a survivor of the Sunvalley Mall plane crash of 1985. The incident left her severely burned and took the life of her youngest child, Alexander Luong. Just three years later she lost her husband to lung cancer, leaving her to raise two young children on her own.
Anh channeled her grief into poetry and activism, self publishing two Vietnamese language books filled with works about her homeland and her family. She joined the Northern California Vietnamese Chapter of PEN International in 2000 and served as its president from 2004 to 2012.
Anh is survived by her daughter and son, Natalie Luong and Chris Luong of San Jose; sister Phuong Tu of Vietnam; sister Thu Tu of Concord; brother Tu A of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be at Darling & Fischer Chapel, 471 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA 95112 on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 from 5PM to 9PM and Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 from 1PM to 9PM. (408) 998-2226. Mass will be held at 9AM on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2040 Nassau Dr., San Jose, CA 95122. (408) 729-0101. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette, CA 94549. (925) 932-0900.

Hi Luong and On family. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother she was a very nice lady. You guys were my next door neighbors in Camara Circle in Concord, CA. I always wondered how you guys and Thuy/Pronounced Tree? We're doing. Again, so sorry for your loss. Many hugs to you and all of your family.
