Anita Nethercutt Obituary

Anita Marie Nethercutt

Resident of Paso Robles

Anita went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 9, 2011.

Born in San Francisco on November 5, 1934, she was the youngest of 5 children: Shirley, Warren, Claire, and Sherman. All predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dale; her son, Gregory and his fiancee, Sayaka; brothers-in-law, John Verducci and George Nethercutt; sisters-in-law, Karen Ashcraft, Sally Burns, Helen Nethercutt, and many nieces and nephews.

Anita was gifted in several of the Arts. As a teenager, she studied voice and ballet. During the early 1950's, she performed on local San Francisco TV, in campshows, stage shows, and in nightclubs like Goman's Gay 90's. For a short while, she had her own late night radio program.

By 1957, she had become disenchanted with professional performing, and while working at General Mills Inc., she met Dale Nethercutt. They were married on May 8, 1960. They were blessed with 2 children, Jeffrey, born in 1963 and Gregory, born in 1965.

In the late 60's, she returned to performing in the San Jose and Saratoga area. She starred in various community theater drama and musical presentations, such as Born Yesterday, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Crucible, and The Pajama Game.

In 1971, she initiated an extracurricular performing arts program at her children's elementary school, Daves Avenue, in Los Gatos. Beginning with the production of Pinocchio, over the next 12 years Anita directed kindergarten thru 6th graders in remarkable productions of such musicals as The Wizard of Oz, George M, Annie Get Your Gun, Bye Bye Birdie, Hello Dolly, and Annie. In 1983, the death of her son, Jeffrey, and her mounting health problems ended her work at Daves Avenue.

During the remaining 28 years of her life, Anita's greatest joy came from sharing her Christian faith with others.

Private services have been held in Paso Robles, CA.

To the family of Mrs Nethercutt,
My name is Taryne Kraus and both my kids attended Daves Avenue School in LG. Both enjoyed the theatre program and I am proud to say that I co-produced the show three times. Her legacy is going strong! For the past five years, Daves has co-produced the play along with Blossom Hill school in LG. Even more special, the past two years, the response is so strong, that we've created three casts and blended the two schools. It's a powerful program for 4&5th graders under the direction of Brian Houg, a BH teacher. Last year, I even got photos of the first play, Pinocchio, from the person who played the role as a third grader (unfortunately, the new Daves webmaster removed the theatre history page from the Daves website.)

I just wanted you to know that Mrs Nethercutt's legacy continues to thrive at Daves.

God bless you at this time of loss,
Taryne Kraus
