Anthony Cavalli Obituary

Anthony Cavalli Born on September 10, 1914 in San Francisco, CA to Peter and Josephine Cavalli originally from Verscio, Switzerland. He left this world peacefully on March 1, 2008 at the tender age of 93, to be with the Lord, along with his cherished wife Frances who preceded him in death 30 years ago, and all of those who he loved so much that had passed before him. Anthony grew up in the Portola district of San Francisco. No one ever tired of his stories, jokes and adventures of his youth. He was an extremely gifted artist and carpenter. He graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco in Dec. 1932. His brother opened a neighborhood grocery store and Anthony was quick to help the business grow. In 1940, he met the love of his life and married Frances Ann in 1941. They had an exceptional life together. He joined Moffett Meat Company in July of 1942 which later became San Jose Meat Company. He and his family moved to San Jose in 1964 and he retired from there in 1976. He is a member of the AFL/CIO Local 506 (formerly known as the butcher's union). Anthony was fun-loving and always smiling. He had many close friends over his lifetime. He possessed a sharp wit that would always make you laugh. He was always tender and compassionate with a heart large enough to encompass the Universe. He loved being with his family, going to the 49ers games when he was younger and then enjoying many Giants games with his family. He lived on his own until he was 89 years old, and then reluctantly decided to 'go ahead' and live with his daughter and her husband. He was a crossword whiz, working on puzzles until the end. Two weeks ago he was in Reno with his children playing his favorite game, Pai Gow Poker. At 93, playing cards, everyone at the casino loved him and would look forward to his arrivals. Preceded in death by his brother Andy Pollanda, sister Mary Bordinave and many loving relatives. He was adored by his children Peter (Rita) Cavalli; Antoinette Cavalli Homan (Randy). He engulfed his grandchildren with so much love: Lisa Cavalli Getzburg (Anthony) Ken Cavalli (Rachel), Gina Cavalli, Erik Homan (Carolyn) and Tiffany Freitas. And the little ones who always touched his heart, his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Jacob, Sydney and Isabella. A Celebration of Anthony's life will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home's Chapel of Roses, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008.

Its been awhile since I've seen Tony but the memories of him are nothing but good. With his stern hand shake and his everlasting smile. He surely will be missed.

My loving memories of Tony and Frances along with my parents are warm and ever lasting. The holidays spent together as neighbors and watching Tony decorate the mirror at the entrance of their home of Santa and his reindeers; the trips to the Russian River and many more outings memories. My prayers and love to the family. Love Gladys (Glendale)
