Antonio Soler Guernica

Antonio Soler Guernica Antonio died peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2009 in San Jose, CA at the age of 85 with his family and friends at his side. Antonio was born in Santiago, Cuba in 1923 and is survived by a large loving family: his wife, Carmen of 57 years; a daughter, Maria Guernica Nasser; sons, Jose Guernica and Dr. Edward Guernica; and 9 grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents Eduardo and Caridad, sister Amparo, and brother Eduardo. Antonio was a graduate of the University of Havana (1953) with a Master's Degree in Accounting. In 1961, he and his family fled political oppression in Cuba with little more than the clothing on their backs. In his adopted country of the United States, he worked for many years as a certified public accountant and a consultant. Active in his church and community, Antonio was a 55 year member of the Knights of Columbus and San Jose council 879. Antonio also served as a member of the 4th Degree Color Corps. A kind and generous man, Antonio will be missed greatly by all who knew him. A Rosary and viewing will be held at Lima Family Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd. Santa Clara, CA on January 28, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. The following day a funeral will be held at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, San Jose at 11:00 a.m. interment will follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, the Knights of Columbus Charities or the Kaiser-Santa Teresa Hospice.
