Audrey Mullins Obituary

MULLINS, Audrey Helm-- Audrey passed away quietly at her San Jose home at the age of 71. Throughout her four year battle with lymphoma she maintained a bright and upbeat attitude. She received tremendous support from her many friends and relatives and the family is deeply appreciative for this show of love and care. Audrey is the daughter of Douglas and Sylvia Helm, both deceased, he being the longtime coach and Vice Principal at Los Gatos High School. She is survived by Roy, her husband of 51 years and leaves son Douglas & fiance Carla, son Clinton and son Dan & wife Becky; sister Winifred & husband Paul Farris of Rio Vista, CA, sister-in-law Cheryl & husband Dr. Ronald Jensen of Davis, CA; brother-in-law William & wife Marilyn Mullins of Camino, CA. She is also survived by her 94 year old mother-in-law Martha Mullins of Los Gatos and granddaughters Katie Mullins of New York, Melissa Mullins & grandson Marty Mullins of Los Gatos and eight nieces. Audrey was raised in Los Gatos and attended University Avenue Elementary School (now Old Town), and Los Gatos High School, graduating in 1949. She attended San Jose State studying to become a teacher. in 1952 she married Roy Mullins, serving in the US Air Force and lived in Tucson, Arizona for two years while he completed his term of service. She returned to Los Gatos where she devoted her life to homemaking and raising her three sons. She was a "Little League Mom" often scrambling to get her three sons to three different games at the same time. She was raised in a sports environment with her dad as Coach of all sports at Los Gatos High School for many years. She became an avid sports fan and enjoyed following her sons participation in football, wrestling, baseball and track. Audrey was an enthusiastic golfer and a member of La Rinconada Country Club for 30 years. She served as Captain of the ladies 18 hole club. Later she became a member of Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert and was active in the Womans Group of Ironwood (WGI) A favorite past time of hers was playing Mah Jongg with ladies groups. Audrey and her husband traveled to many countries of the world and much of the USA. For many years Hawaii was her favorite destination with golf being the main activity. While playing a round of golf on vacation at Rancho Bernardo she scored a hole-in-one. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to Lymphoma Research Foundation, 8800 Venice Blvd., #207, Los Angeles, CA 90034 and/or Pathways Hospice Foundation, 201 San Antonio Circle, Mountain View, CA 94040.
