Cara Hamm Obituary

Cara Jo Hamm
Resident of Reno, NV
Cara Jo Hamm, trailblazing entrepreneur in both online publishing and e-commerce, passed away September 9 at the age of 39.
Hamm was born at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Upper Michigan. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and San Jose, California, she attended the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia before graduating from the University of California Santa Barbara. Cara quickly rose to prominence first at Disney, then Warner Brothers; pioneering both companies' core digital initiatives during the early internet boom era.
Shortly after, she co-founded LMCD Marketing, a premiere technology publishing conglomerate based in Northern Nevada. Cara specialized in growing advertising and sales for international outlets, including AnandTech.com and DailyTech.com. These publications are syndicated and read by many millions today.
An avid athlete, Cara was a expert downhill skier. She and her family transplanted to the Arrowcreek community just outside Reno, Nevada from Southern California to better enjoy the famous outdoor activities. She quickly became skilled in wake-boarding and water-skiing, two of her favorite summer activities. During the winter, snowmobiling was her passion.
Her friends and family remember her most for her beaming, unbounded radiance and determination. Cara made recent local headlines after the beloved family dog, Cooper, went missing during Fourth of July fireworks in the Tahoe area. After four days, dozens of volunteers and authorities had given up on Cooper. Undetermined, Cara spent one more day, alone, in the Sierra wilderness only to find Cooper tangled but alive in the underbrush.
For all her incredible achievements, Cara boasted her children were the most important.
Cara is survived by her loving husband Michael, her two children Cody, 12, and Dylan, 9, and her parents Larry Barber and Debbie Hanks Barber, formerly of San Jose.
Private services will be held this Saturday, September 14th at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd Street in Reno. A Celebration of Life will be held will be announced at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed in the Book of Memories at the website www.waltonsfuneralhomes.com.

Cara, thank you ever so much for being so generous, warm and allowing a young/wayward Brit feel part of your family back in 1998. It was a wonderful surprise to see you one last time and with your next-generation Internet / Hardware crew at your side! You showed us old-timer Dot.Com'ers a thing or two! Rest in peace and I'll always remember us speeding down Metlcafe Road in the Jag!

Cara was a ray of light with a radiant smile. When I reflect back on our high school years, she certainly was a go-getter as our ASB President. It was wonderful seeing her last year at our high school reunion; she looked fantastic! My heart goes out to her family, especially her boys. Rest in peace dear Cara. God has an amazing angel up in Heaven! Love, Shawna (Rice) Festag
