Caridad Mejia Tamayo entered into the Peace of Christ on June 29, 2016 at the age of 77. The daughter of the late Florencio and Maria Mejia, Carrie was a native of Ramos, Tarlac in the Philippines. In 1961, she graduated from the University of the East (Manila), then taught math at LaSalette College (Santiago, Isabela), and at St. Catherine High School (Antipolo, Rizal). Carrie emigrated to the United States in 1966 and on October 21, 1967, she married the love of her life, Fred, at Star of the Sea Church in San Francisco.
A resident of Santa Clara for almost 50 years, Carrie worked at Memorex in Santa Clara for 13 years. The Tamayo family owned King Crab Restaurant on El Camino Real for 6 years. She then managed both Denny's and Carrow's Restaurants. Carrie retired from Silk Dynasty, Inc. in Mountain View.
She was a faithful Catholic with a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and especially to St. Jude. After retirement, she loved volunteering at Kaiser Permanente and at St. Justin's Parish Ministry. She was a long-time parishioner of both Our Lady of Peace and St. Justin Parishes in Santa Clara.
Carrie was the beloved wife of Frederic Benigno Tamayo for almost 50 years. Together, they raised 3 sons: Noel (Melissa), Paul (Marian) and Brian. She was the proud and loving Grandma and Lelang to Philip Paul, Bella Marie and Emiliana Maria Augusta Tamayo. Carrie was the dearest sister of Celso (Angelita) Mejia, the late Flor (Aurora) Mejia and the late William (Catalina) Mejia. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the U.S., in the Philippines, Canada and the United Kingdom will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 5:00pm at LIMA FAMILY SANTA CLARA MORTUARY, 466 North Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara. Vigil Services at 7:00pm at the above mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:30am at St. William Parish, 611 South El Monte Ave., Los Altos. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos.
