Danny Spanos Obituary



Danny C. Spanos

Resident of Stockton

Dionysios "Danny" C. Spanos, 88, of Stockton, CA, passed away on August 31, 2011. He was born in Stockton, California on October 29, 1922 to Gus and Evanthia Spanos. He attended Stockton High School and California Polytechnic Institute, where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. Danny enlisted twice and served two full terms; first in the US Navy from June 1943 until March 1946 and then in the US Army from July 1950 until July 1953. In recognition of his faithful service he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

He and his wife, Alice Mills, met during his tour of service in Korea and married on April 18, 1952. Preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Alice, he is survived by his brothers Alex (Faye), George (Mary), and Leo and his sisters Stella Graham and Madeline Madsen, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Danny lived all of his adult life in San Jose and worked for many years as an aeronautical engineer for the Lockheed Corporation. He had a huge fascination with space and enjoyed immensely his job at Lockheed. Throughout his life, he loved animals and was devoted to his pets.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park, Chapel of Flowers, Highway 99 and Harney Lane, Lodi. Visitation hours are scheduled for Sunday, September 4, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Delta Humane Society, P. O. Box 30908, Stockton, CA 95213. The online registry may be signed and memories shared at www.cherokeememorial.com
