Edward Klaus Obituary

Ed and his family moved from Arlington, VA to California in 1956, to start his new job. After interviewing with several companies, he decided on a relatively new company in San Jose, IBM. They bought their first home in a new neighborhood, with an easy commute to the Cottle site. Life was very busy raising 4 children. In 1983 his wife, Evelyn, passed away. In 1985, Ed married Valerie Alter, who also had 4 adult children. He retired in 1993 from IBM after 36+ years of service. Friendships continued with the IBM Retirement Club social activities and trips. Not really ready for full time retirement, he obtained his real estate license. He enjoyed helping Valerie with her many real estate transactions. He also found numerous opportunities to volunteer in the community: coaching smoking cessation classes for the American Cancer Society, trimming roses at the San Jose Rose Garden, serving as a board member for their Homeowner's Association. He also volunteered at the Willow Glen and Almaden Community Centers, assisting students in the Senior Net Computer classes. He joined SIR, Sons in Retirement, a men's social group. There, he enjoyed luncheons, guest speakers, and playing in a bocce ball league. Ed truly enjoyed the many family gatherings throughout the years. His wife, 8 children, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren will miss him more than words can say. A Celebration of Life will be a family gathering next year.
