Edward Rodriguez Obituary

Edward "Lalo" S. Rodriguez
Jan. 14, 1927 - Nov. 26, 2015
Resident of San Jose
Age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 26th, Thanksgiving Day, with his family by his side. He was a beloved and devoted husband to Frances, a loving father to Franie, Eli, Monica (Tony), Amelia and Roderick, an extraordinary grandfather to Trey, Nick, Gianna, Johnny and Armando. He is survived by his brother Joe, and sisters Maria and Cuca, Brothers-in-law, Jess and Jay. Born in Santa Paula, CA, our adored Lalo at the age of 17 was an amateur boxer winning 6 of his 8 fights. In 1944 Lalo joined the Army to service our country in WWII as a Sargent in communications until 1946. In 1955, Lalo opened one of what would be many shoe repair shops in San Jose, CA and became a mentor to a few friends and now business owners, themselves. Lalo loved what he did so much that, to him fixing shoes was not a job it was his passion. Lalo's Shoe Repair has been mentioned as one of the longest living, surviving Latino businessman in Santa Clara County for 60 years. Lalo was a very kind and generous man. He was genuine. He loved to attend parties, dance, play Bingo and Keno and tell stories and jokes. Lalo also enjoyed fishing, deep sea or anywhere he could say he caught a big fish. He always had a smile and a beer for you. Let's not forget another one of Lalo's biggest passions was his automobiles – customizing his cars to his taste. A Legend, a Hero, a Mentor, he will be missed by his family and many great friends. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Mass and Burial at 11:00 am Wednesday Dec. 9. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in Lalo's name to your favorite charity.

Hello, I know you were the greatest person that started Lalo's shoe repair. I always went to Lalo's for my shoes that needed fixing. No another. Yesterday I went to white rd. Eli was working their. And find out it's no longer there.
I got sad so sad.
I want to say thank you very much for fixing my favorite shoe 's to ware again

My sincere condolences to Lalo's family. May he rest in peace. I met Lalo at his shop in the early 1980s when I was in high school. He repaired all my scuffed, multi-colored high heeled shoes back then. I will always remember his loving smile and sense of humor. I'll never forget one day when I asked him "how much?" for a repair job and he told me to bring him two muffins from Peter's Bakery and we'll call it even. He will be missed but never forgotten.

You dont know me but I remember Lalo when I was a little girl growing up on South 31st Street. My brothers and cousins would run to the small shopping center where his shop was on Alum Rock Avenue. We'd stop by Lalo's" to say hi on our way to "Crescent Pharmacy" next door. He would always say hi and I can still see his friendly smile. Sorry to hear about his passing and wish your family peace.

So sorry for your loss. Although your hearts are filled with pain and sorrow, our prayer is that you gain comfort and hope from God's promise to reunite us with our love ones on the earth, never having to say goodbye again. For Jesus will make this earth the problem-free paradise that His Father intended it to be. We have gained comfort and strength from this promise, may your family do the same.

My father, George, was the manager of Kushin's Shoes at Eastridge in the early 70's. He always sent his customers who needed repairs to Lalo - a great guy.

Lalo. You were the best on Santa Clara street in the 60,s and 70,s. When I was a young boy my dad Had a appliance shop about a block east of your shop. Every time he took me to your shop, I was amazed on how you got that big shoe in your shop. Through the years I resided on the eastside and continued to pass by your home on Capital and admired the Continental parked in the carport. Rest in peace my friend and the good lord be with your entire family. D Escarcega

Back in the day this was the only place to take your shoes.
we would drop off our shoes and go next door to Tampico's for the best pork burritos in town.
Great memories.
Rest in Peace...
