Eleanor Catherine Schuermann (Ellie) was born August 20, 1965, and died May 27, 2018. Her life ended tragically from injuries and complications endured after being hit by a minivan in downtown San Jose as a pedestrian on the evening of Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Ellie is remembered adoringly by her family as kind, caring, positive, and fun. She was a moral compass in her own life and set a good example for others in her thoughts and actions.
Ellie received a scholarship to attend Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in New York City, graduated with honors from UC Berkeley, and earned a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law. Ellie was a member of the California State Bar and the Santa Clara County Bar Associations and practiced law in the Bay Area for 25 years.
A gifted singer and lifelong choir member who graced several churches in California with her voice, most recently at St. Claire's in Santa Clara, Ellie also ran the South Bay Karaoke Group and enjoyed many evenings sharing those musical gifts with friends.

We lost Ellie twice, once when the accident happened and then again when she finally gave up her valiant fight to come back to us. We miss her every day, we mention her to each other every day. Now almost a year later, the pain has not receded. Ellie, we love you and miss you so much!

My condolences to Ellie's family at this very sad time. When I think of my nine years living in California, I always think of my years rooming with and having fun with Ellie. Her friendly smile was like the golden California sun.

A few weeks ago I unexpectedly lost this beautiful friend, soul & human being, an angel as far as I'm concerned. You had a way of bringing complete strangers together via song & music Your cheery ways, positive attitude, kindness & love for justice were just a few of the beautiful traits you enveloped.
