Eugene Northrop Obituary

Eugene "Gene" A. Northrop, Lt. Col. (Retired) U.S. Army
Apr. 2, 1919-Dec. 6, 2013
Resident of San Jose
My Gene touched the hand of God and slipped peacefully away.
A N.Y. native, Gene, and 4 brothers served honorably in different military branches, W.W. II, and all returned safely. He truly loved his 23 years of active/reserve military service. A career in the frozen food industry included Nat'l Sales Mgr., Food Broker, and his own food brokerage business. After several "retirements" he dabbled in real estate, retail sales and finance.
Gene's living legacy continues with his children, Eugene, Suzanne, Craig, Elizabeth, and step-son Peter Bennett, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Sally Northrop, and Caroline, his beloved wife for 42 years.
A quiet man, warm, kind, generous and a benign flirt! He enjoyed travel as long as the destination was warm, a deep love of music often displayed as a glorious tenor, the challenge of golf, a sublime appreciation of lakes and oceans, and DINING OUT!
A special thank you to the entire staff at Vasona Creek Health Care Center.
Gene requested no memorial service. Should anyone wish to donate, to Sacred Heart Community Services, or the San Jose Animal Care Center, Monterey Rd., in his memory, it will be most appreciated.
Gene's farewell -
"Be good to yourself".

So glad we got to see Gene and Caroline in July at Suzanne's place. Gene was a fascinating and charming man and Marcy and I both loved him. He showed patience and love while raising me from age 5-17 and never spoke ill to me of anyone. I am happy and honored that we maintained a friendship for the rest of his life.

I was very lucky to meet Gene while working at U.S. Bank on Foxworthy Ave. in San Jose. He was very sweet and visted us daily. That was the highlight of our morning! Gene always gave us sound advise. After being transferred to the U.S. Bank branch on Big Basin way in Saratoga, I called Gene to say hello and let him know I was thinking of him. The following week, Gene showed up at my branch and we had lunch! What a blessing to have met him. I would like to extend my condolences to his family, I was very fortunate to meet his daughter Suzanne! Gene, you will be missed! Thank you for all the lessons in life! Sincerely, Monica Villa

Very nice write-up Caroline. You captured his history well. Loved the benign flirt. Hit it right on the head. We are thankful for our trip to CA last year. Also that he passed peacefully. Ann & Gene Jr.
