Gerald Davey Obituary

San Jose
Gerald Karl Davey, of Willow Glen, passed away on April 1, 2018. Gerald was born on May 31, 1937 in Grass Valley, CA to Karl and Eva Davey who preceded him in death along with his beloved sister Judy, for whom he cared for many years. Gerald graduated from San Jose State University and went on to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal. Next, he joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as an advisor in the Civil Operations and Rural Development Support Program (CORDS) in Vietnam's Central Highlands where he was a champion of the indigenous Montagnard Peoples. After the War, Gerald served as an area superintendent in the Vietnam refugee camp at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas before his assignment to the Sahel Task Force in Washington, DC which provided assistance to the areas affected by a severe drought in sub-Saharan Africa. Gerald then went to Thailand to assist in processing continuing refugee flows from Vietnam. Later, he headed an International Voluntary Agency in the Philippines, continuing his service in the field of social and economic development. Upon his return home, Gerry taught history in local schools for a decade. Gerald was a gracious man who deeply appreciated his family and friends. He generously supported veterans throughout his life.
A celebration of Gerald's life will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home in San Jose on Monday, April 16, beginning with the viewing at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by services in the Meditation Garden at 11:00 a.m.
