I was a patient of Dr. Kaplan when he was at Sam Jose Medical Clinic. He set the bar for me and I was never able to find another doctor who came close to his ability to connect with patients, his compassion, his willingness to spend as much time as needed to find out what he needed to know. I made an appointment with him because I had a broken heart. That was in the early 80s and I have never forgotten his wise words that got me through it. My heart and thoughts go out to his family.

I met Henry at a Conference for DNA Project administrators several years ago. I knew nothing of his background, only that he was interested in genetic genealogy. He was very gracious and unassuming and most interesting to talk to. I looked for him at later conferences and am greatly saddened to learn of his death. Those of us who knew him from the genetic genealogy community miss him.

Besides being amicable and quick witted, Henry was always willing to share his expertise to help fellow genealogists along their ways. My condolences to Marcia, and his sons. His memory will be for a blessing.

A truly remarkable man who was intellectually honest, loathfull of corruption, full of humor, warmth, understanding, humanity and curiousity. He was unyielding in his allegiance to family and friends and principles.
